Maximum Ability: How to Recruit and Retain employees with (Dis)abilities

Speaker:
Paul Artale
Work Life and Motivation Expert

Maximum Ability: How to Recruit and Retain employees with (Dis)abilities goes beyond ADA and helps participants understand the personal, social, and medical needs of persons with (dis)abilities. This helps to create inclusive workplaces that attract and retain talent. Why is this important? To begin with, more than 25% of the population has a disability in some form.

Disability is among the top 3 EEOC complaints. Finally, more than 55% of employees will have a disability by the time they retire. With this in mind, we must keep working to ensure that 1) our organization creates an environment that is accepting of persons with (dis)abilities and 2) we as leaders have a working knowledge of what (dis)ability is and how to celebrate it. During this presentation, I infuse my life story of overcoming physical challenges both on and off the football field. Emerging research and trends, as well as practical knowledge relating to ability and inclusion. Specifically, participants will:

• Understand Disability as a social construct
• Define microaggressions and how to combat them
• Devise Strategies and considerations for different types of disabilities and conditions
• Learn how to create recruitment pipelines to access highly qualified employees with disabilities
• Discover best practices in onboarding employees
• Understand universal design principles (physical layout and operations)
• Apply practical tips on how to engage in conversations about ability (I know it can be uncomfortable)
• Learn the key tenants of Disability Identity Theory
